Question 58: What is the ruling on tattoos? Does having a tattoo represent an impediment to someone performing the obligatory Hajj?
Answer: All praise be to Allaah Alone, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, and his family and Companions. Tattoos on the body are Haraam (prohibited), as it was authentically reported:“The Prophet (peace be upon him) cursed the woman who adds false hair and the woman who gets false hair added to her own; and the woman who tattoos and the woman who has herself tattooed.” Tattoo can be applied to cheeks, lips, or any other part of the body, and can be blue, green, or black.
