Students standing up when their teacher enters the classroom

Question: It is reported that the Messenger (peace be upon him) came out leaning on a walking stick towards some of his Sahaabah (Companions). They stood for him and he said to them: Do not stand up as non-Arabs do to show respect to one another.

(A) What is the ruling on students standing up when their teachers enter the classroom?
(B) Is it permissible for people to stand up to greet and shake each others’ hands in meetings?
