Is Iblees (Satan) Jinn or Angel (malak)?

Question 254: Is Iblees (Satan) one of the Jinn (creatures created from fire) or one of the angels?

Answer: Iblees is one of the Jinn, not the angels, as Allaah says, And (remember) when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourselves unto Aadam.” So they prostrated themselves except Iblees (Satan). However, Iblees disobeyed the orders, as he was with the angels and imitated them in their ‘Ibaadah (worship), so he was included in the address directed to them and disobeyed Allaah’s order of Sujood (Prostration)…. read more here.
