Ruling on anyone who claims that “Allaah exists everywhere”?

Question 515: What is the ruling on those who claim that Allaah exists everywhere?

Answer: Allaah (Glorified be He) is high above His Creatures, above His Heavens and is settled on His Throne. This is clearly supported by the Qur’aan and Sunnah texts as well as the consensus of all Muslims. Thus, whoever believes that Allaah indwells everywhere is a Kaafir (disbeliever) for belying Allaah, His Messenger and the consensus of all more here.

Saying: “Allaah is in the hearts of believers”?

Question 514: The saying: “Allaah is in the hearts of believers.” Does it indicate that the one who says it is a believer in Hulool (a Sufi term meaning indwelling)? What is the deviating sect that believes in such a saying?

Answer: It is more proper not to say “Allaah is in the hearts of believers” as it may allude to a belief in Hulool. Alternatively, one can say, “Believers love Allaah.” Allah (Exalted be He) says: But those who believe, love Allaah more (than anything else). He (Glorified be He) also says: Allaah will bring a people whom He will love and they will love Him However, if, by saying such a statement, one means that Allaah’s love is dominating the hearts of believers and that they fear Him, it will be alright as it is a sound more here.

Salaah behind a person who believes that “Allaah is everywhere”

Question 513: There is a person who leads the people in Jumu`ah (Friday) Prayer, and he believes that Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He)exists everywhere. We showed him clear pieces of evidence in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah that Allaah exists everywhere with His knowledge, but His Entity is above everything. He totally refused this belief. Is our Salaah (Prayer) behind him valid or not?

Answer: The belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jamaa`ah (adherents to the Sunnah and the Muslim mainstream) is that Allaah (Glorified be He) is high above His Creatures, rising over His Throne and separated from His Creation. Allaah (Exalted be He) says, Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allaah), will not cause the earth to sink with you, and then it should quake? He (Exalted be He) also more here.

Saying: “Allaah is everywhere.”

Question 512: What is the ruling on saying that Allaah (Glorified be He) exists everywhere?

Answer: Saying that Allaah exists in all places is the saying of the atheist Al-Hulooliyyah (a Sufi sect that believes in indwelling). The foregoing is a false saying and it is tantamount to Kufr (disbelief) in Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He). This is because Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He) is above His heavens rising over the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). He (Exalted be He) is too exalted for indwelling in any of His Creatures. He is free of all wants and needs, while all His Creatures stand in need of Him. He (Exalted be He) more here.

Where is Allaah physically?

Question 511: Where is Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He) in Person?

Answer: Allaah (Glorified be He) is rising over His `Arsh (Allaah’s Throne) by His Self and is separated from His Creation. Allaah (Exalted be He) says: The Most Gracious (Allaah) rose over (Istawâ) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in six Days and then rose over (Istawaa’) the Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). He knows what goes into the earth and what comes forth from it, and what descends from the heaven and what ascends thereto. And He is with you (by His Knowledge) wheresoever you may be. And Allaah is the All-Seer of what you more here.

What does it mean that Allaah is Istiwaa’ (Allaah’s rising over the Throne)?

Question 510: Is it permissible to understand the meaning of Istiwaa’ (Allaah’s rising over the Throne in a manner that befits Him) as straightness?

Answer: The `Aqeedah (creed) of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jamaa`ah (adherents to the Sunnah and the Muslim mainstream) concerning the Names and Attributes of Allaah (Exalted be He) states the more here.

The Ahl-Sunnah Creed in respect of the Divine Attribute of Istiwaa’

All Praise is due to Allaah. May peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, family and Companions. I have recently looked into what was published in Al-Balaagh magazine, Issue no. 637 where Shaykh Ahmad Mahmood Dahlub provided an answer to the following question: What is the Tafseer (exegesis) of Allaah’s saying: He rose over (Istawaa) the Throne (really in a manner that suits His Majesty). The answer to this question contained a mistake wrongly ascribed to the Salaf (righteous predecessors) when he said: ‘The Salaf explained the Aayah “rose over the Throne” that He (Allaah) seized the Throne and possessed it, as the poet says,

Bishr has reigned supreme in Iraq
With no bloodshed or any cruel act

Falsely attributing such words to the Salaf prompted me to draw people’s attention to such a blatant mistake lest the readers of this saying should be deceived into thinking that it was said by esteemed scholars… read more here.
