Question 12: What is the ruling of Allaah and His Messenger on those who, when one dies, slaughter a goat which they call ‘Aqeeqah? They do not break any of the goat’s bones. Then they bury its bones and its excretion. They claim that this is a good thing which everyone should do.
Answer: This act is a Bidd‘ah (innovation in religion) which has no basis in Sharee‘ah (Islaamic law). Therefore, it should be rejected and those who practice it should repent to Allah as from any other Bidd‘ahs and sins. It is an obligation to repent to Allaah from all these things, as He (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: And all of you beg Allaah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful And: O you who believe! Turn to Allaah with sincere repentance!
