Burning a person accused of theft with a heated piece of iron

Question 364: When a person accused of theft is brought before some people here, they burn him with a heated piece of iron. If he admits his act, it will be all right; otherwise, fire will cause him no harm. Is such behavior permissible according to Allaah’s religion?
