Qur’aan reciters going around houses on the 23rd of Ramadaan to recite Qur’aan

Question 118: Here in Pakistan, in Deir city, some Qur’aan reciters go from one house to another to recite Qur’aan on the 23rd night of Ramadaan. They especially recite Soorahs (Qur’aanic chapters) Yaa-Seeen, Al-`Ankaboot, and Taa-Haa in return for a sum of money. What is the ruling on this matter?

Answer: This is an act of Bidd`ah (innovation in religion) that has no origin in the Qur’aan or the Sunnah. It is obligatory to quit it and warn people against it. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Anyone who does an action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours (Islaam) will have it rejected. And: Every newly-introduced matter is a Bidd`ah (innovation in religion), and every Bidd`ah is a Dalaalah (deviation from what is right). (Related by Muslim in his Saheeh)... read more here.
