Religion of Sufism: Pledges, Calling onto Husayn, Zaynab, Badawee, Awliyaa, the Messenger of Allaah

Question: The shaykhs of Sufi Tariqahs (orders) are found in some countries; they give pledges to their disciples, and those who take the pledge should never break it. They decide on nights for congregational Thikr (Remembrance of Allaah) with specific names, such as: Allaah, Hayy (Ever-Living), Qayyoom (the One who sustains and protects everything), or Ah in the form of circles or lines, standing or sitting.

They sway to the right and left, and a group of them chant praising the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and the rest of the prophets and righteous people, usually accompanied with drums, tambourines and Mizmaar. Some of the attendees pay money known as Nuqtah. Sometimes, there are no tambourines, Mazaamir or Nuqtah.

The chanters say, “O, Sayyidunaa Al-Husayn! Help us!

O, Sayyidah Zaynab! Help us!

O, Badawee! Help us!

O, my grandfather, the Messenger of Allaah! Help us!

O, Awliyaa’ (pious people) of Allaah! Help us!”

Some people make a vow to sacrifice a sheep, pay money and so on to Badawee, Al-Husayn, Lady Zaynab or others. A ram might be slaughtered by the shrine of the shaykh whom the vow is made to and the money put in the box at the shrine.

Are such deeds permissible or prohibited? Please advise, may Allaah reward you of the best.
