Slaughtering animals for the jinn and invoking them to fulfill a need

Question: What is the ruling on people who adhere to the pillars of Islaam but slaughter animals for the sake of Jinn (creatures created from fire)or make Du`aa’ (supplication) to them to fulfill their needs? Are they excused for being ignorant of the fact that Sharee`ah (Islaamic law) prohibits such practices? Can they be called Mushriks (those who associate others with Allaah in worship) even before the matter is explained to them?
