Washing the Wudoo’ organs in the right order and consecutively

Question 65: What is the ruling on someone who performs Wudoo’ (ablution), but does not mention the Name of Allaah? During Wudoo’ (ablution), should we start by washing the face then perform Madmadah (rinsing the mouth) and Istinshaaq (sniffing water) or the other way round? I am asking as I was told that there has been a discussion regarding this matter, with one saying that washing the face comes first while the other says Madmadah and Istinshaaq come first.

Answer: All praise be to Allaah Alone, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, and his family and Companions. It is better, when performing Wudoo’, to start with Madmadah and Istinshaaq before washing the face, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) did so. There is also Ijmaa‘ (consensus) among the scholars that it is Mustahab (desirable) to delay washing the face, until after them; but if one washes the face before them, their Wudoo’ is valid…. read more here.
