Reciting the Soorah Yaa-Seeen, with the intention of dedicating the reward to the dead?

Question 455: What is the ruling on reciting the Soorah of Yaa-Seeen over the dead, with the intention of dedicating the reward to them? Is that permissible? If it is, what is the evidence?

Answer: Reciting the Qur’aan with the intention of dedicating the reward to the deceased person is Bidd`ah (innovation in religion), because there is no evidence to support that act. Furthermore, a Hadeeth has been reported concerning the recitation of Soorah Yaa-Seeen upon the dying person, but it is a Da`eef (weak) Hadeeth that does not stand as proof.
