Male Qawwaamah, is it a form of duty and not an elevation?

4- He said that the male Qawwaamah (the right of the man upon the woman resulting from the duties imposed upon him towards her) over women is a form of duty and not an elevation.

Answer: This is a mistake and the correct opinion is that men’s Qawwaamah over women is both a duty and an elevation, since Allaah (Glorified and Exalted be He) says: Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allaah has made one of them to excel the other, and because they spend (to support them) from their means. Hence, Allaah (Glorified be He) makes it clear that He has granted men Qawwaamah over women due to two points.

First: The advantage of men over women in general.

Second: Men’s spending from their means to support women, such as paying Mahr (mandatory gift to the bride from her groom) and other expenditures  read more here.

Salam alaykum warahmatullah wabarkatuhu. I don’t doubt Abdul aziz ibn baaz (rahimullah) knowledge mashAllah!
But how is this suppose to be understood, when he says that men have a general advantage over women, compared to the teachings that men are equal to women?
I’m not a feminist or anything but it just seem contradictive whit what I’ve learned. I hope you can make this clear to me in sha Allah.
    JazakAllah khairan.

Wa ‘alayki al-salaam. I’m really sorry, this is a knowledge portal, a fatwaa site, not meant for questions and answers.

What Shaykh (may Allaah have rahmah upon him) was explaining is the term ‘Qawwaamoon’. Muslims obey Allaah and His Messenger (salaam of Allaah be upon him) blindly in the sense without if’s and but’s, but they say, we hear and we obey.

Men and women don’t share equal rights in Islaam because they are not equal and same in Islaam, one is the leader whereas another one is the subordinate; both have separate jobs assigned and everything is put at its place. There is no need for them to be equal and same, this difference keeps them together. Men have advantage (study the tafseer of 2:228) over women in the sense that he is the leader and his opinion is dominant in his family, nothing happens against his wishes because Allaah charged him with the authority in this worldly life. Woman is the subordinate, she follows the commands of her husband in all aspects of her life as its her religious obligation to obey her husband. Like mothers have advantage over their children, in the same way men have advantage over women as well as responsibilities.
